There is so much going on in Southern Sudan Now

Susan D. Lintz

27 Jan. 2011

Southern Sudan spent the week of January 9th voting its right for independence. The voting ended on Saturday the15th. It has been a long time coming. The vote appears to be overwhelmingly in favor of independence and a separation from the North. The preliminary results will be made available in Juba on January 31, 2011 with the final results coming from Khartoum on February 14, 2011. The voice of freedom is very strong in the world right now. People in other countries are standing up for freedom from oppressive governments and censored communications. It is a great time for liberty and renewal!

At Southern Sudan Mission, our purpose is to listen and help those in the Aweil area of the state of No. Bahr el Ghazal. We are currently raising funds to provide hygiene education for women and their children in several villages in Aweil County. We are also raising funds to train local clinical officers and send medical pharmaceutical shipments with the help of Giving Children Hope to the same area. Your help is most gratefully appreciated.

Aweil has been a difficult place to reach and is very isolated. The road system is minimal. There is only 1 main graded dirt road from Khartoum through to Juba. Consequently the availability of transportation, air or vehicle, has made supplies and medical care very limited and sporadic.

We are now offering necklaces, bracelets and key rings hand-made from materials donated by Southern Sudan Mission. All of the proceeds from the sales will help fund medical shipments as well as educational training to help the people of Aweil become self-sufficient. Please visit our online store to get a wonderful symbol of freedom.
